Eyelashes fall out all the as anyone who wears contact lenses will tell you. Unaided they can take about four to eight weeks to grow back. Unless their has been some trauma done to the follicle your eyelashes need to grow back to provide protection to the eyes from dust and sweat. This is just genetics.

However your eyelashes are not constantly growing. The follicle does go into a dormant stage where it rests until the eyelash cycle is complete and it is time for it to resume growing. This is why many women swear by eyelash stimulators and conditions. The stimulate the lash at the follicle to speed up this process and result in fuller and thicker lashes.

If you have eyelash loss and do nothing you will normally see them come back in a few weeks. It takes about six weeks for them to reach full length.

Severe loss of eyelashes is madarosis. People who have an under performing thyroid will often lose their eyelashes in small clumps.

One way to avoid pulling out your eyelashes or damaging the follicle is to be careful when applying fake eyelashes. Follow the directions exactly or consider having them done by a professional. Pulling them off can be especially damaging and you will only have to wait longer for your real eyelashes to grow back.

Applying Fake Eyelashes

They can be a terrific benefit to any look, but applying fake eyelashes properly takes a bit practice to do properly until you are used to it. It is not that they technique is particularly difficult, just that handling them and having the end result look natural can be real challenge.

False eyelashes of today are considerably easier to use than those of the past. They are carefully designed to blend better. Of course the higher quality you choose the more success you will have.

First you want to start with good fake eyelashes. You will also need tweezers, glue and finally curlers.

You use the glue or other adhesive to apply the eyelashes to the eyes. The exact procedure will vary from brand to brand. As with everything, practice makes perfect.

After the glue has dried you will want to go back and curl them and apply mascara.

If you are likely to want to wear fake eyelashes on a daily basis you may consider opting for semi-permantent lashes instead. These are ideal for those who need them to stay in longer than a single application. In this case it is best to consult with and have them applied by a professional.

While wearing fake eyelashes, some people choose to also use an eyelash stimulator and/or conditioner. This will facilitate the natural growth and thickening of your own lashes so that the falsies may no longer be required and you can be done with the hassle of applying fake eyelashes altogether.

The Art of Eyebrow Plucking

Eyebrow plucking is said to be an art. The is skill, patience and creativity involved to do it well can take considerable time to master. It can make your eyes look larger and give your face a healthier more youthful appearance.  Eyebrow plucking should ideally be timed just before bed as the time before morning will allow any redness or irritation to subside.

One tip is to brush your eyebrows with a toothbrush before plucking them using some hair spray. This will keep all the hair in place and prohibits plucking too much. You should pluck your brows with as much light as possible so that you can see the tiniest hairs.  Evaluate your face and decide what shape of the brows you would like to have.

Use a pair of angled eyebrow tweezers to pluck the hairs below the brow; never shape your brow by plucking above it. Pluck only one hair at a time.

If your brows are thin or sparse, try to make the most of the number of hairs by plucking very deliberately and cautiously. Only get rid of stray hairs under the natural arch of the brow. Then pluck hairs individually to achieve that desired brow shape. Always pluck in the direction from the nose to the ear. The brows are thicker closest to the nose and they should thin out accordingly. If you want an arch for example, gradually pluck hairs so that they peak a bit in the middle of the brow. Then tweeze the hairs so they get increasingly thinner until they end and only a few hairs remain. Fill in the sparse brow with eye shadow or eyeliner. Both will add color and dimension to give the illusion that your brows are fuller and darker than they naturally are.

Final warning: do not pluck brows into a thin line thinking it will make your eyes look larger. It can look dated or give the face a surprised look and this shape is not easy to correct once the damage is done.
